Tunisian Panel Tube Skirt 123112

For the skirt pictured, I used 1 large, 8 oz. skein wool yarn, with size K afghan and traditional crochet hooks. Your pattern will vary, depending on the type of yarn and size of hooks you choose to use.

Step 1:  Make Tunisian panels (choose your preferred length)

Step 2:  Placing wrong sides together, join yarn to 2 panels, chain 1 and single crochet along seam, to other end

[Repeat Step 2, adding each panel to last panel, as you work.]

Note:  It’s good to make sure all panels are matched up, so that your initial foundation rows for each panel are on the same end of the skirt.

Step 3:  Join last panel to first panel in the same way, to create your tube. Do Not Finish off, upon joining these panels together.

Step 4:  Front loop only single crochet in each sc around, skipping seams between panels. Join with slip stitch to 1st single crochet. (Front loop only means to work only in the front loop of each stitch.)

[Chain 1 and repeat Step 4 two more times around top of skirt. Finish off.]

Step 5:  Join yarn at bottom edge of skirt. Chain 4 (counts as 1st triple crochet); triple crochet in each stitch around; join with slip stitch to top of first triple.

Finish off. Weave in loose ends. Use clothing steamer to relax stitches. Hang or lay flat, according to instructions of type of yarn used.

Change It Up and Make It Yours

  • Add a few more panels and use single crochet decrease stitches at top of skirt, for a fuller effect.
  • Add several more rows single crochet rows,  and fold them down like a cuff.
  • Create ribbing at the bottom by adding a couple more triple crochet rows, and alternating between front post and back post stitches.
  • Create a ruffle at the bottom by making 2 triple crochet stitches in each stitch around.
